A patent application filed under the Patent Cooperation Treaty. Under PCT rules an inventor filing a national patent has twelve months to decide whether to turn that application into a PCT Application. The PCT application is then communicated to the relevant national patent offices where the inventor translates the applications or does what other things may be necessary under the local patent law in what is known as the national phase.
