103, Section

U.S. legal shorthand that refers to §103 of the U.S. Patent Act, which requires an invention to be non-obvious “to a person having ordinary skill in the art to which said subject matter pertains.” While §102 non-novelty requires that an invention be completely anticipated by a single reference (including technology incorporated by reference) §103 obviousness allows the combination of prior art references.
