Fixed, Fixation

Copyright arises when a creative work or expression is first fixed (recorded) in a tangible medium, i.e., written on a page, recorded on a disk or tape, film, etc. That a work be “fixed” in some form is necessary because otherwise there is no ready way to determine what the scope of the protected expression is.
