Terminator Gene, Seed

Gene inserted in a genetically modified plant seed which causes it to cease reproducing usually after the first generation, thereby allegedly preventing contamination of extant strains of the plant with the genetically modified strain’s DNA, and also ensuring that the farmer must buy the next year’s seed from the seed vendor. The use of terminator genes is highly controversial.
