Secondary Infringement (Copyright)

US term for contributory infringement in the context of copyrights. Unlike Patents, where contributory infringement is statutory, Secondary Infringement is based, primarily, on judicial precedents, In particular a party who knowingly induces, causes or materially contributes to copyright infringement even if that party has not directly committed or participated in the infringing acts, can be held liable as a contributory infringer if they had knowledge, or reason to know of those infringing acts.
