Childrens’ Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA)

US Federal Law (15 U.S.C. §§ 6501 et seq.) which restricts the collection of personal data from children under the age of 13. While in principle sites can collect such data with a parent or guardian’s permission many web businesses and websites, particularly in social media, prophylactically prohibit any child under the age of 13 from joining the site’s membership or using the site.
