The ‘Borg‘ are fictional characters in the Star Trek TV series and films. One of their standard phrases, based on their overwhelming numbers is “resistance is futile.” Corporations or licensing entities in control of very large patent portfolios, even where it is demonstrable that the patents they initially assert are either clearly invalid, or the arguments that they are infringed are contorted like a nose of wax, with more gloss than a used car showroom, will often cite the size of the portfolio and make similar arguments – the Borg Strategy.
