GNU General Public License (GNU GPL)

An open public license promoted by the Free Software Foundation. The original GNU Public License was criticized because its vague wording led to a threat that use or incorporation of software under the GNU Public license could give rise to infectious public licensing. In response the Free Software Foundation has developed what is known as the GNU II license, but is officially called the GNU Lesser General Public License, which does not go as far in opening up all ownership of software provided pursuant to it.
