Trade libel is the publication of a false statement of fact that is intentionally disparaging of the quality of the the goods or services of a business that results in damages to the that business. It is a business tort and allows the injured business to seek compensatory damages and often punitive damages. It has a complex interaction with the torts of disparagement and tortious interference.
