Res Judicata

Legal principle that disputes already adjudicated in one court should not be re-litigated in another. Generally, res judicata only applies against a party that had, or could have availed of, an opportunity to appear in the prior case and argue its position. Res judicata does not apply to appeals of the prior ruling within the judicial system that the order was issued in.
