Double-Dipping

In principle, this refers to collecting a fee or other benefit twice. In licensing it refers typically to a situation where the licensor can collect more than one royalty from a value chain that results ultimately in a single product. Whether double-dipping is permissible or feasible depends on whether a patent has “exhausted” the first “dip” which can be a complicated legal and factual question.
