Critical Date

The date after which an inventor is no longer entitled to apply for a patent. The critical date can vary depending on the jurisdiction and its application of grace periods and their length, e.g., 6 months, 1 year.  Thus in the US the critical date might be 1 year after first sale which triggers the on-sale-bar, while in Europe it would be the date of first public disclosure.
