Complementary Technologies

Technologies that typically will or need to be used in combination. The term is commonly used in the legal analysis of the legality of package licenses and patent pools. Combining complementary technologies in a single package license usually does not raise competition or antitrust law issues of potentially illegal tying. By contrast, substitute technologies represent competing alternatives.
