Competition Commission

U.K. entity that inquires into mergers, markets, and the regulation of the major regulated industries. The Competition Commission has no authority to initiate an inquiry on its own; rather the matter must be referred to it by another agency, e.g., the Office of Fair Trading. The Competition Commission was formerly known as the Mergers & Monopolies Commission or MMC.
